What Is a Denture Reline?
If you have broken, worn or ill-fitting dentures, they do not always need to be replaced. Our in-office Denturist can assess very quickly if you’re a candidate for a rebase, reline or repair.
What is Rebasing?
Rebasing is usually done when your denture teeth have not worn the same as the denture base material. Rebasing is a process of retro-fitting your existing dentures by replacing the existing acrylic denture base with brand new acrylic This provides a stable denture base without replacing the existing denture teeth.
What is a Reline?
A reline consists of adding new base material to the tissue side of the denture, so it will fit properly. The benefit of Denture Relining is that it can restore your existing denture to a “like new fit”.
Relining your denture only affects the fit of the denture and will not change the appearance or other aspects.
Dentures Relines are required when tissue changes occur due to resorption (shrinkage). Resorption can take months or years to happen.
Tissue resorption can be due to:
- loss of weight
- loss of teeth
- loss of bone
- normal ageing
- disease or illness
Can we repair broken dentures?
Our Denturist can restore an existing broken or cracked denture to its original state. Repairs may be required when breakage or chipping occurs when one or more teeth need to be added to an existing denture (due to tooth extraction), or because of wear and tear.
If your denture requires a repair, it may be indicative of other underlying problems. Other factors may be the age of the denture, worn teeth, or poor fit.
Your Monterey Dental Centre Denturist is the professional who can best explain how to prevent denture breakage from occurring.
